Stay out of the diet cycle with a non-diet resolution
Tempted to sign up for that January challenge? Or convince yourself to give up sugar once and for all? Or maybe you’re going to join your co-workers in going to the gym at 5 am, or doing “dry January?
Whatever it is, it probably feels exciting to think about doing something new in January. The new year can feel like the perfect time to be “all in” and make big changes, especially when December can feel like a little choatic. Not unlike September, we’re drawn to a return to routine after the status quo gets disrupted. Too many holiday meals to count, sweets in the staff room, and seasonal beverages can leave us feeling like we need to “course correct” ASAP!. But I probably don’t have to tell you that resolutions (even made with the best of intentions) in January have an 80% chance of failing come February 1st.
Maybe it’s time to try different, not harder
Whatever the change you’re craving, I’d like to challenge you to avoid falling into the familiar resolution trap of vowing to lose weight to fit into your favourite jeans, giving up sugar, or committing to 30 days of anything. Let’s challenge your change by focusing on how you want to feel all year long, not just mark a calendar accomplishment. Which is why my annual non-diet resolution is back! And this year I’ve convinced a few experts to join me!
